Apple Rejects ‘Unpleasant Horse’ Game Over Mature Content

Apple today rejected a game called Unpleasant Horse from the app store because they deem it to be “mature content”.

Apple must think the app is offensive to people that may be offended by a flying horse that wreaks havoc on the flying pony community and ultimately tries to kill these flying ponies by forcing them to their death.

Seems okay to me.

I mean, how is it any different to a gang of birds that catapult themselves into buildings holding innocent-until-proven-guilty green pigs that may result in a severe concussion, or worse, death? And all that just to return some eggs! Just lay some more friggin’ eggs, you silly birds!. And maybe file a complaint about the thieving pigs at your local police department!

Okay. So the above comparison may not be entirely fair but surely it should be up to us, the user, to install apps once we are provided with a warning that the content is suitable only for a mature audience? It is not known what age rating Unpleasant Horse was submitted under but I would imagine a rating of 17+ would promptly see its approval.

The rejection boils down to Apple’s rather shady and loose guidelines where they state:

“The app approval process is in place to ensure that applications are reliable, perform as expected, and are free of explicit and offensive material.”

But I might want offensive material!

But what exactly is the game about? The below explanation is taken from 4th And Battery’s website..

“The good news is that you are a horse with wings. Nobody doesn’t like those! The bad news is that you are a, well, rather unpleasant horse with wings. How unpleasant? Glad you asked. Get this: Your idea of a good time is bouncing from cloud to cloud and on to the backs of other, cuter flying ponies, who will thus be sent plummeting to a gruesome, bone-chewing demise, thanks to an unfortunately placed series of meat grinders on the ground below. (Really kind of a tragedy of civil engineering.) All is well and good for you, though—unless you happen to miss a cloud or pony, and then, guess what? Those meat grinders don’t play favorites. So keep those wings flapping, don’t miss a jump, and keep a lookout for cool powerups to keep you flying longer and higher!”

The game developers are hopeful that their app will soon be accepted to the App store.
