iWork Apps Now Available on iPhone & iPod Touch

Apple has just released PagesNumbers and Keynote as Universal Apps for iOS meaning you can now write, build spreadsheets and presentations from your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Apple Public Relations:

Keynote, Pages and Numbers import and export documents from iWork for Mac and Microsoft Office; print wirelessly using AirPrint™; and include beautiful Apple-designed themes and templates. All iWork apps now include improved document management with thumbnail images that let you find your files quickly, organize them and group them into folders using intuitive gestures. From the Tools button in the toolbar, you can easily share any presentation, document or spreadsheet without leaving the app.

9to5Mac points out that this release is a week ahead of  WWDC since Steve Jobs will be too busy announcing other cool stuff during his keynote. Could there be more in store other than Lion, iOS 5 and iCloud next week? Releasing the iWork productivity suite as universal apps would certainly be a nice addition to iCloud by enabling seamless document synchronization across all iOS and OS X devices. Next week would also be a good time to release a new, more powerful MacBook Air running OS X Lion.

I foresee iCloud being integral and exclusive to Lion, so this update to iWork for iOS makes a lot of sense. Apple likes to package consumer solutions into nice, tidy bundles and iWork everywhere is just one more piece of their strategy.

Download PagesNumbers and Keynote from iTunes now. Available for $9.99 each and compatible with iPad and iPad 2, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, and iPod touch (3rd & 4th generation).
