Find My Mac Uncovered In Lion Preview 4

Find My Mac has been a much-rumored upcoming feature of OS X Lion. Today, a 9to5Mac reader has found and detailed a functional “Find My Mac” process within the OS X Lion Developer Preview 4.

The setup appears to be fairly simple, just a matter of turning it on through System Preferences, and enabling it creates Safari-only guest access to your machine so the finder of the machine can connect it to the internet and help you locate it. Once you are able to connect to the lost Mac, you can play a sound or message, or remotely lock or wipe the Mac. Below is a shot of what a locked Mac looks like.

This is an intriguing feature – and I suspect that smart and devious people will be able to fairly easily bypass the system – but still, it’s a good start, and something is certainly better than nothing.
