Yesterday, Google’s Eric Schmidt had a conversation with Walt Mossberg at AllThingsD9, and among the several notable things he said, Schmidt claimed that Apple has just renewed a Google Maps agreement with Google.

This confirms a previous rumor we reported that Apple would not be going with their own maps, but instead continuing to use Google Maps for the time being (presumable, at least according to me, because they’re still hard at work on something much, much better.

Even with this news, however, its entirely possible that Apple will redesign the Google Maps app to be more useful, functional, and intuitive for iOS 5.
