Macbook Pro Owner Helps Police Arrest Thief

On March 11th of this year, Joshua Kaufman’s Macbook Pro was stolen from his apartment in Oakland, CA. Joshua not only reported the crime to the Police but he also tipped off the police to the thief’s identity, his location, his email address, and even got a weird topless shot of the thief.

Joshua was able to provide the Police with all of the above information thanks to an app called Hidden that he had previously installed on his Mac. Hidden is an app that will locate your stolen Macbook and secretly take photos using the Macbook’s built in camera, and it will take screenshots of what they’re doing on (and to) your Macbook.

Ten days after Joshua’s Macbook Pro was reported stolen, the thief was arrested by the Police. Score!

You can read all about the robbery and arrest, and view images of the thief, on Joshua’s blog – This Guy Has My Macbook.

Lucky guy (Joshua, not the thief, obviously).
