Review: Incipio OffGRID For iPhone 4

Review: Incipio OffGRID For iPhone 4

Battery cases can be essential for users that are often away from their computer, or that require more battery life than your iPhone typically provides. After recently comparing three of the leading cases side-by-side, I’ve encountered another battery case that I like very much: The Incipio OffGRID ($69.95, Direct).

Overview

The Incipio OffGRID is made from a high-quality rubberized plastic, and is thin enough to fit comfortably in your pocket while providing some much-needed extra power for your phone. The case comes in fairly minimal packaging, containing only the case itself, a manual, and a nice long cable for charging and syncing.

Although the OffGRID contains a smaller battery (1450mAh) than some competing cases, it is also a bit thinner and lighter than many other cases on the market. I found the OffGRID to be capable of providing my iPhone 4 with around a 75% charge.

I found the OffGRID a bit more difficult to install than I would have liked, as the top didn’t connect with the bottom quite as smoothly as it could have. Sliding the iPhone 4 into the case offers a a fair bit of resistance, ensuring a tight fit for your device.

The OffGRID places its charging and battery indicators on the front of the case rather than on the bottom, which I found especially useful as I could lay the phone face-down at night at not have to worry about seeing the charging lights flash. Another thing I especially liked about the OffGRID is that it offers a longer charge/sync cable than most battery cases.

Analysis

Overall, I found that the OffGRID offers an excellent combination of style and function, trading a larger battery capacity for a slightly thinner and lighter design that’s a bit more pocketable. At $69.95 retail, the OffGRID provides a decent value for the money.

Verdict

All things considered, I really liked the OffGRID, and found it to be a solid and well-designed compliment to the iPhone 4, and while I might have preferred a bit larger battery capacity, I must say that it was nice to have a case that could easily fit into the cell phone slot on my jeans.

The OffGRID is a high quality product and offers a respectable value for its cost, and while it doesn’t pack the horsepower that some other batteries might, it will likely be sufficient for the majority of casual iPhone users that find they need a bit of extra juice to get them through the day.

Rating & Information

Rating: 4.5/5[rating:4.5]

In contrasting the various aspects of the Incipio OffGRID, the only things I would actually change about this case would be the addition of a slightly larger battery and a top and bottom section that fit together a bit more easily and naturally. With those being fairly minor gripes, I award the Incipio OffGRID a 4.5 out of 5.

People that prefer a thinner and lighter design over higher battery capacity will be thrilled at the OffGRID’s compact size, and the $69.95 price tag is a very respectable price for what you get – a well designed battery pack that will help you get through the day without charging.
