The legal battle between Samsung and Apple could soon come to an end in Australia, reports the Wall Street Journal, as lawyers for Samsung have offered to make a deal with Apple regarding a patent dispute that could allow Samsung to sell their Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in the region in less than a week.
The two companies emerged from a court hearing at Federal Court in Sydney this morning, and acknowledged that an offer had been made, but neither company has discussed the details in front of the court or provided details to the press.
Apple lawyer Stephen Burley commented that both Apple and Samsung could stand to benefit significantly if the two parties agree on the deal, as it would reduce inconvenience for Samsung and allow them to take advantage of holiday sales for the tablet in Sydney, and Apple “would be comforted” by the resolution.
Apple and Samsung continue to remain engaged in legal battles in numerous countries, with Apple claiming that Samsung is “slavishly copying” its iPhone and iPad devices with their Galaxy range of smartphone and tablets – an argument that may have some merit judging by a number of available photographs showing similarities between the two companies products.
