New Apple TV May Be Coming Soon – Amazon Cuts Prices on ‘2010 Model’

Amazon has just reduced the price of the current Apple TV to $89.99, and begun listing it as the ‘2010 model,” suggesting that an updated version of the Apple TV may be released in the near future. The price reduction was originally pointed out by 9to5Mac.

Retail indications such as this are often good clues that Apple may be preparing to update a device, so Amazon’s name change and price reduction for the current Apple TV is definitely worth noting.

Now that the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S can output high-resolution video, games and other content at 1080p, the current Apple TV’s limitation of 720p just doesn’t seem to cut it.

If Apple does release an updated model this year, it’s likely to contain an A5 processor, allowing it to handle the more resource-intensive 1080p playback supported by modern HDTVs.

Could Amazon know something that the rest of us don’t? It’s very possible. But if not, this is still a pretty nice deal! It might be a nice time to head on over to Amazon and take advantage ($89.99, link).
