Official Gmail App Pulled From App Store Hours After Release

Following their release of a native Gmail app for iOS devices, Google has already removed the app from the app store just hours after its debut, citing issues with notifications.

The app has received a great deal of criticism since its release, and has been almost universally shunned by Twitter commenters for design issues, performance concerns and other reasons. The Gmail team has put out a tweet on the matter:

The iOS app we launched today contained a bug with notifications. We have pulled the app to fix the problem. Sorry we messed up.

“Google Apps Guy” Dave Girouard also put out a tweet apologizing for the issues:

Googla culpa! Sorry but we pushed a bad version of our iOS app for Gmail. More info shortly – we’re working on it.

Hopefully Google has not done too much damage to the app’s reputation. They’ve really missed the mark on this one – hopefully they can repair, revamp, and relist the app on the App Store soon.
