Canadian Shoppers Scammed Into Buying iPads Made of Clay

Canadian Shoppers Scammed Into Buying iPads Made of Clay

Apple’s iPad is often a target for scams, but Canadian scam artists who targeted a Future Shop store have taken things to the next level by replacing iPads with clay replicas in the original retail packaging.

Imagine how you might feel after spending a load of cash on an iPad, only to return home and find a large hunk of clay in the box where your new tablet should be. Horrible!

CTV News reports that as many as 10 clay iPads have been stolen and replaced with clay replicas at Future Shop and Best Buy stores in the Vancouver area. But how did they do it? According to Future Shop, the scam artists bought the iPads with cash, replaced them with clay, resealed them in their original boxes (shrink wrap and all), and then returned them to the stores for a full refund.

Several people have already fallen victim to the iPads of clay, and store management has launched a thorough fraud investigation in the hopes of finding and charging the clay-swapping criminals.
