How To: Remove Authorized Computers From Your iTunes Account

By default you are able to run your iTunes account across five computers.

Some of you may find that restrictive however for the major majority or users it will be quite adequate.

The issue that comes up most and recently came up for me was that I had not de-authorized computers which I no longer use or for that matter own. As a result I was unable to play music purchases with the account in question until I rectified this issue.

You can not simply de-authorize a single computer from the list of five. You need to de-authorize all computers which are attached to your account. It is important that you have access to all the computers you wish to use as you will need to re-authorize the computers in order to play your purchased content.

In order to undertake this process you will need to open iTunes and log in.

Once logged in you will need to access your account information which can be achieved through three methods.

You can navigate to Store > View My Account from the Menu Bar, you can click the drop down menu on the right hand side of the iTunes store window which represents your account name and how much credit you have available on your account, or you can simply from the iTunes Store homepage click on the following account link:

Upon successful access you will be presented with the following information:

Looking down the bottom of the image above you will notice that five computers are authorized to play the content purchased with the Apple ID in question. What you will need to do to change this so you can authorize new computers is click the Deauthorise All button located next to this statement.

Pressing this button will present the following popup window:

Simply press De-authorize all computers and all computers currently authorized to play the content from the account in question will no longer be able to play the content until such time as you re-authorize them.

Upon pressing the De-authorize All Computers button you will be presented with the following confirmation popup message:

Then all you have to do is go and authorize all the computers you wish to use with the account in question.

Simply log into your account and you will be presented with an option to confirm you wish to authorize the computer in question with the iTunes account you intend on using.
