Photo Comparison: iPhone 4S vs Samsung Galaxy Note

Jim Dalrymple posted an interesting picture on The Loop yesterday showing Samsung’s monstrous Galaxy Note next to an iPhone 4S. I’m sure Samsung didn’t intend for such a comparison to be so hilarious, but I can’t help but be amused at the monstrous size of this device!

The above picture shows Leo Laporte holding the two devices side-by-side. As CultofMac notes, however, some people were skeptical, suggesting that Leo might be holding the Galaxy Note closer to the lens than the iPhone, so they provided their own comparison shot taken at CES 2012 last month to drive the point home!

Let’s see – Monstrously huge screen? Check. Stylus? Check. Ridiculous, cartoonish appearance? Check. Maybe instead of trying to copy the iPhone, Samsung was really trying to copy the Newton (below image via Wikipedia)! Good thing I’m not a Samsung fan – I’d need to buy some new pants just to carry that thing!

Ok I’m not one who likes the ultra small ultra thin phones, and frankly I think the iPhone’s sit right in the sweet spot of size.  But damn is Samsung serious with the size of this thing.  That’s ridiculous.

Got to remember that the 3.5in size was designed so that the SMALLEST-handed of the target demographic could operate the device SINGLE-handed.

That means most users could handle a larger device, and those who do not use a smartphone mainly single-handed are not limited by size as a primary criterion.

The iPhone is nice and compact, but it is not designed for the use cases that the Note was. Certainly, anyone who wants to be able to easily web browse while out and about and not carry a tablet, or write faster than type/swyping with 10-16 lines per page, may want to check out the Note.

Over a million people bought the Note in its first two months, and that is well before it hit the US carriers. That means for many 3.5in is not enough.

Fortunately, we live in a commodity phone market where a variety of people sizes and use cases are being catered for.

I quite like the idea of using a stylus on a 6″ screen. However Samsung made it, so I’m sure the software is abysmal.

Hilarious! Another thing that clearly stands out from the photo. I am 100% certain that my iPad and iPhone will never have a single company logo on the front, let alone two!
