The final flight of the Space Shuttle Discovery took place today, marking the beginning of an indefinite suspension of the U.S. space program. One iPhone user, @adamwells, was able to capture the beauty of the moment using his iPhone and Instagram (via Obama Pacman, CultofMac), resulting in the gorgeous photo below of Discovery flying over Washington, D.C.

There’s just something about this photo – the final voyage of the Space Shuttle passing over the heartland of American politics. There’s a certain natural poetry about that which can’t adequately be expressed with words.
