Don’t Have Fast Broadband? Download OS X Mountain Lion At The Apple Store!

Since OS X Mountain Lion is only available from the Mac App Store, some folks without broadband internet may feel a bit put out. Well, not to worry! Apple has answered this complaint by offering up its store’s Wi-Fi networks to the public to use for downloading the update.

This seems like a good idea in theory, (GREAT for Apple, as people can and probably will buy things as they wait for their download to finish), but I wonder how well the connection (and its speed) would really hold up if several hundred people all tried downloading OS X Mountain Lion’s nearly 5 GB installer at once?

I’m sure Apple Retail Stores have a pretty impressive internet infrastructure, so it remains to be seen how this will pan out. Most Apple Authorized Service Providers and third-party Apple resellers will also offer WiFi for this purpose.

Even with this seemingly generous offer of Apple’s, users of iMacs and Mac Pros may still find themselves in a pickle of sorts (although admittedly, if you own a Mac Pro, you can probably afford quality broadband). It remains to be seen if Apple will offer a solution for people in that category. Anyone planning to wheel their Mac Pro into the store by using a cart like the one pictured above? If you do, send us a video so we can amuse ourselves over and over.
