Apple No Longer Shipping ‘Old’ iPod nano, New Model Coming In September?

Apple No Longer Shipping ‘Old’ iPod nano, New Model Coming In September?

The iPod has been pretty much forgotten in all the hype surrounding the rumored new iPhone and also the WWDC announcement earlier in June, but it’s still there, and an update is expected. And while we haven’t heard much, the German Shell Reward Club has dropped the biggest hint yet that a new iPod nano will be hitting the market, telling members that a new version is expected in September and that the current ‘old’ model is no longer available, iFun reports (via 9to5Mac).

Roughly translated the statement reads:

There is an unexpected delay in the delivery of your Shell CLUBSMART premium “Apple iPod nano 8GB blue” due to an upcoming re-introduction of this device from Apple (according to our information). Therefore Apple is currently not able to deliver the “old” model.

No other retailers have shown shortages, but Apple has made it a tradition of updating iPods almost yearly ever since the first one, so it really wouldn’t be surprising.

However it is strange that only the German Shell reward club has broken the news – you’d expect at least that all Shell clubs do it as well. We’ll see what happens, but this is in line with what one would expect in terms of iPod release times.
