How The iPhone 5′s Camera Compares to the iPhone 4 and 4S

Now that Apple has posted the first high-quality photographs taken with an iPhone 5, the folks at Dpreview (via Gizmodo) decided to put it to the test against Apple’s previous versions of the iPhone.

Dpreview’s Scott Everett recently took a photo of Big Sur in California, and used it to form a comparison between an iPhone 5 photograph from the same location. As you can see above, the iPhone 5 camera appears to be a significant improvement!

The difference is even more clear when compared against the iPhone 4. Pretty incredible result! For more reasoning behind the improvement, check out Dpreview’s take on the comparison.

yeah the pictures are def taken at different angles… I don’t see a huge improvement if any between the iPhone 5 (or 4S as some of you like to call it) and the new iPhone 5

Let’s assume that you are no interested in smartphones and you have never heard that there is an iPhone 4 AND an iPhone 4S AND an iPhone5. It should be clear to you by now since the three of them are mentioned separately in the text. Regardless of wether the compared pictures are or not different… what was your point again?

The point is, like so many others trying to sound smart, he likes to toot about the “improper naming” of a device. But, what he doesn’t get, is that it’s a name … not an internal cataloged analytical accurate product identifier. I would have loved it if they just called it the iPhone and have everyone freak out. It’s a name, that’s what it is. Apple calls it the iPhone 5, that’s what it is. But there’s still people that want to be “oh, I’m smart and savy and it’s really the 6th iPhone … blee bloo blah”

There is a difference between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5, but there is very little difference between the 4S and the 5.
