iOS 6 Adoption Rate Hits 61% After Just 1 Month

After just one month of release, Apple’s iOS 6 mobile operating system is installed on roughly 61% of all compatible devices in the U.S. and Canada. And how about Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich? Well, it’s melting from lack of use.

GigaOM:

A month after Apple’s official release of iOS 6, it’s been installed on roughly 61 percent of possible devices in the U.S. and Canada according to new data collected by Chitika Insights. That is only slightly better than the 50-percent adoption rate that iOS 6 hit after just two weeks in the wild, suggesting that users installing or upgrading to iOS 6 is slowing somewhat. But still, it’s the fastest uptake of any mobile operating system upgrade.

Chitika regularly surveys Apple’s mobile OS adoption by checking how many devices using iOS 6 have accessed it online ad network.

While the adoption growth has slowed somewhat recently, it’s expected that the number will show a healthy increase soon, as Apple is ecpected to introduce a new smaller iPad on Tuesday, and that will probably have a definite effect on the amount of users with iOS 6 devices.

As a side note, only about a quarter of Android users have upgraded to the latest version (Ice Cream Sandwich, or Jelly Bean) of the software as of the beginning of October. That’s roughly 12 months after its release. This is likely attributable to the fragmentation of the Android device market.
