Apple’s Lightning to Micro USB Adapter Dead on Arrival for Many Users

Apple recently added their new Lightning to Micro USB to the U.S. Apple Online Store – the first time a Micro USB to iOS device adapter has ever been available in the U.S. Those cables are being delivered today to those that ordered the first day the adapter appeared on the site.

Apple’s website describes the Lightning to MicroUSB adapter as follows:

The Lightning to Micro USB Adapter lets you connect an iPhone, iPad, or iPod with Lightning connector to micro USB cables and chargers to sync and charge your device.

Unfortunately, we’re hearing from several people who ordered the adapter that it’s not nearly as useful as it seems – because it doesn’t work! According to a number of tips we have received, many Lightning to MicroUSB adapters are showing up dead on arrival. Plugging them into a Micro USB cable, and then into a Mac or wall charger, yields no result at all. The adapter cannot charge OR sync devices.

I’ve confirmed this independently with an adapter of my own, which arrived this morning. I have tested the adapter with a variety of Micro USB cables, plugged into the Mac, as well as several different USB wall chargers, and the adapter simply will not charge my iPhone 5, iPad mini, or 4th-gen iPad. Nothing happens when the cable with the adapter is plugged into the iOS device.

Have any of you tried using the adapter yet? And if so, are you noticing the same problem? Let us know in the comments!

Well I’m glad I read this today, thank you. Saved me from blowing money buying them. I’ve got several micro USB cables from phones the kids no longer use so when I heard these were coming I was excited to be able to save money by not having to buy a couple more lightning cables.

I just got mine in the mail today and it’s working fine. Tried three different MicroUSB cables. They are all Samsung OEM if that matters. I bought one to carry around just in case I don’t have a lightning cable but it’s the same price as a regular Lightning to USB cable…

Got mine yesterday. It works fine with several different chargers and cables, no problems at all with any of them.

Just received mine today, and it doesn’t work with the micro USB cord I have here at work. I have 3-4 more at home, and I will try those then, but not optimistic after reading this article. :/
