Apple to Bring Movie Ticket Purchasing to Siri in iOS 6.1

Apple to Bring Movie Ticket Purchasing to Siri in iOS 6.1

The first developer beta of iOS 6.1 has been released, and Siri has learned a new trick. You’ll be able to tell her to buy movie tickets for you through Fandango when you’re searching movie times.

 AppleInsider:

In current public releases of iOS 6 and 6.0.1, the personal assistant found on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch will give users showtimes for films playing in nearby theaters. Directions to the theater can also be obtained, but users are not given a quick way to buy tickets.

In the first developer release beta of iOS 6.1, which was released last week, Siri now offers improved integration with Fandango. Now, in the listing of theaters, those that sell tickets via Fandango will show a ticket icon to the right.

When a movie is selected, the results also include a link to “Buy Tickets,” and the Fandango logo. A quick tap of that link, and the Fandango app will launch if the user has it installed.

Siri was most recently enhanced with the release of iOS 6, when she had new abilities added such as being able to launch individual apps, find sports scores, make meal reservations, and check movie times.

iOS 6.1 was released last week for developer testing, and no timetable has been announced for its general release.
