Nielsen: Most U.S. Kids Want Apple Products for Christmas This Year

Parents: If you’re wondering what your kid wants for Christmas this year, the latest data from Nielsen provides a fairly clear answer: Most kids want Apple products, and in particular, iPads. Big surprise there, right? Just like pretty much every other year!

Out of the top 5 most wanted Christmas presents among kids aged 6 to 12, four are Apple products, including all of Apple’s iOS devices. Apple devices even outweigh dedicated game consoles, such as the XBox 360, or even portable gaming devices such as the PlayStation Vita.

From Nielson:

[…] Apple’s popularity leading up to the holiday season continues a trend seen over the last couple of years, with American kids aged 6-12 generally more interested in the latest iOS offerings than other consumer electronics and gaming devices.

Approximately half the children surveyed expressed interest in the full-sized iPad (up from 44% last year), and 36 percent in the new iPad Mini. The iPod Touch and iPhone are also coveted devices among these young consumers (36% and 33%, respectively).

Meanwhile, with kids 13 and older, tablets and notebooks/netbooks top the list, with 24 percent saying they want an iPad, and 18 percent saying they want some tablet other than the iPad.
