Google Glass Confirmed to be iPhone Compatible – But to What Extent?

Google’s futuristic Project Glass heads-up display has caught the attention of many consumers and pundits alike for its unique reality augmenting features, but many iPhone users have wondered whether the device will work with the iPhone. Well, wonder no more: According to an extensive hands-on report from Joshua Topolsky of The Verge, Google Glass will, in fact, be compatible with Android and iOS devices alike.

The Verge:

The device gets data through Wi-Fi on its own, or it can tether via Bluetooth to an Android device or iPhone and use its 3G or 4G data while out and about. There’s no cellular radio in Glass, but it does have a GPS chip.

It’s unclear exactly what this compatibility will entail – such as whether it will support iOS notifications, or the ability to view and send text messages. But the fact that it is compatible in at least some manner should be seen as a good sign. Google is currently holding a contest to allow developers to buy Google Glass for $1500 if you make an interesting case about how you will use the device.

The Google I/O developer conference is set to take place on May 15, and it’s likely that Google will announce launch plans for the device at the event, or shortly afterword. Details on final pricing and specs are yet to be revealed. Will you be purchasing a Google Glass headset when they become available?
