iCloud Overtakes Dropbox, Google, and Amazon as Most Popular Cloud Service in the U.S.

Apple cloud services are certainly not without fault – for instance, the system has experience more outages than any of its competitors. According to a new report from Strategy Analytics, however (via Engadget), that hasn’t prevented iCloud from becoming the most-used cloud service in the U.S.!

iCloud

The report notes that iCloud is used by 27% of U.S. internet patrons – a full 10% lead over the nearest competitor, Dropbox, which is used by 17% of U.S. internet patrons. That’s remarkable for a number of reasons – iCloud has been around for a lot less time than Dropbox, and doesn’t offer all of Dropbox’s features, such as online file storage.

Among the reasons for Dropbox’s lower than anticipated market share is a lack of any content ecosystem. Apple, Amazon, Microsoft Cloud Drive, and Google Play are all tied to web applications that allow for the editing of documents and other features. They’re also each tied to devices offered by their parent companies. Not so with Dropbox.

It’s an interesting report, whatever the real reasoning might me. Congrats, Apple – here’s to hoping that iCloud only continues to improve over time!
