Flipboard 2.0 Hits the App Store: ‘Faster, More Visual, and Easier to Navigate!’

Flipboard released a major 2.0 update for their popular iOS app today, adding an impressive new feature for creating personalized magazines on any topic of your choosing, as well as improvements to search, notifications, and more. Calling the update “the most ambitious thing the company has ever done” (via Mashable), Evernote hopes the update will encourage folks to use Flipboard in new and innovative ways.

Notifications have also been added to alert users about their friends likes, comments on articles, or sharing of user-created personal magazines, and the Etsy integration allows users to purchase goods from the handmade-item reseller from right within the app.

From the Flipboard blog:

What’s the only thing better than Flipboard? Flipboard 2.0! It’s a major new edition, with treats for everyone from the casual reader to the power user. There’s more content than ever to enjoy, including a new partnership with Etsy. When you search, we instantly create a magazine out of your results. It’s faster, more visual, and easier to navigate.

And, for the first time, you can collect and save articles, photos, audio and video by organizing them into beautiful magazines. These can be private, or if you want to connect with like-minded enthusiasts, you can make them public and share them on Flipboard and beyond. Now everyone can be a reader and an editor.

The company has also released a new bookmarklet, allowing users to add content to Flipboard from a browser. To add the bookmarklet, just go to share.flipboard.com and simply drag the bookmarklet onto your browser’s bookmark bar. It’s an impressive update, and the personalized magazine feature has tons of application to education and business aside from the benefits to individual users.

For more details, check out the Flipboard blog. Flipboard 2.0 is currently iOS-only, and is available for free from the App Store (direct link).
