How to Hide And Re-Arrange Icons on Your Apple TV

With Apple continuing to roll out new apps to their Apple TV set-top box faster than ever before (such as this week’s release of HBO Go, WatchESPN, Crunchyroll and others), you might find that your Apple TV menu is becoming a little more cluttered and disorganized than you like. Fortunately, an easy fix for both problems lies in the ability to both re-arrange your home menu icons, and even delete them.

The easiest way to organize your screen is by moving the icons around to locations that you prefer rather than dealing with the stock icon placement. Apple details the process in their support document as follows:

Rearranging icons

You can rearrange the order of most of the icons on the Apple TV’s main menu (Podcasts, Radio, Netflix, Trailers, and so on). Note: You cannot move or rearrange the icons in the top row (Movies, TV Shows, Music, Computers, and Settings).

To change where an icon appears on the main menu:

  1. Select the icon you want to move
  2. Press and hold Select on the remote
  3. When the icon begins to jiggle, use the remote to move the icon to a new position
  4. Press Select again to finish

You can repeat these steps to move other icons.

If moving the icons around doesn’t quite do the trick for you, it’s also possible to hide certain icons from the screen entirely using the Apple TV’s parental control settings:

Hiding icons

You can use Parental Controls to hide icons on the Apple TV’s main menu.

To show or hide icons:

  1. Select Settings > General > Parental Controls
  2. Scroll down and select either Show or Hide as desired
