Leaked Docs from German and Canadian Carriers Indicate 32GB and 64GB iPhone 5 to be Discontinued

Recent leaks of documents from Canadian wireless carrier Telus, and German carrier Vodaphone indicate that Apple may be planning on discontinuing the 32GB and 64GB models of the iPhone 5, but may keep the 16GB model around as an entry level device, ala the iPhone 4.

9to5Mac:

A new leaked doc from Canadian carrier Telus (via MobileSyrup) shows that the carrier has plans to discontinue the iPhone 5 on September 28 just days after the next-generation iPhones are rumored to launch. Although it would lend weight to the theory that Apple could get rid of the iPhone 5 since the rumored iPhone 5S and especially the lower cost iPhone 5C are so close internally to the current device, the doc only shows that the 32GB and 64GB models will be discontinued, which might be a clue the 16GB iPhone 5 will stick around as an entry level model.

Similar information, allegedly from Vodafone Germany, indicates that the 32GB and 64GB iPhone 5 and 16GB iPhone 4S will soon be discontinued.

No one knows for sure what Apple is planning, and we’ve seen information like this come and go in the past. We should all have a lock on Apple’s plans for their iPhone lineup in just a few short days, as the September 10th Apple event grows ever closer.

The iPhone 5S is expected (collaborated by well-sourced analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, iMore editor in chief Rene Ritchie, 9to5Mac reporter Mark Gurman, and MG Seigler of TechCrunch, and more) to feature a champagne or gold color option, up to 128GB of storage,  significant under-the-hood upgrades (including a new custom Apple A7 chip with 64-bit processing), dual-LED Flash, a larger battery, a vastly improved camera, and more.

Keep your eyes open on September 10th – things are about to get VERY interesting!
