This makes it easy to get real-time updates, like when someone comments on your Pin, or sends you a Pin they think you’ll like. Similar to the push notifications you might see on your iPhone or iPad, you can see alerts in the upper right of your desktop screen.

The Safari Push Notifications service debuted in Apple’s new OS X 10.9 Mavericks operating system. It allows websites to notify you when they update content on their website, even when the Safari browser is not running. Websites that offer the service will notify you of the ability to use Safari Push Notifications when you visit the site using the Safari web browser.
