How to Block Access to Porn and Mature Content on iOS

In today’s world, parents are certainly in the right to be worried about handing their child any sort of smartphone or tablet, even an iOS device. There’s a lot of scary and inappropriate stuff out there! Fortunately, Apple provides a number of ways to keep bad content away while still allowing your child to use an iOS device.

Aside from enabling full-blown parental controls, or locking your device into “guided access” mode, OS X Daily cleverly points out that you can also specifically block pornographic, adult, or mature websites all on their own. This is all handled through the Restrictions setting panel. Here’s how it’s done!

iOS Porn Block 2

To get started, open the Settings app on your iOS device (running iOS 7 or later). Now, click the General tab, and then Restrictions. If you haven’t already, set the Restrictions toggle to On. You’ll now be prompted to either enter or create a security passcode.

Once you’ve done that, you now have access to block a variety of things – specific apps, the iTunes Store and/or App Store, in-app purchases, and more. For this how-to, we’ll focus on adult content. From the Restrictions page, navigate to Websites, and then select Limit Adult Content option. For even more security, you can also set it so that Safari will only allow access to SPECIFIC websites – or even enter specific websites you’d like to ban.

That’s all there is to it – we hope you find this useful! For more helpful tips, check out our full collection of tutorials by visiting our How-To category!
