Review: The Justin Case Universal Fit Rechargeable Power Case for 8.9″ – 10.1″ Tablets

You may remember our review of the Justin Case Ultra-Slim Power Case for the iPad from awhile back. That four-star charging case allowed us to charge our portable devices on the go, allowing us to break the tether of the AC power charger. Now, Justin Case has released a new, universal power case that allows you to protect and recharge your 8.9″ to 10.1″ tablet.

Overview

The Justin Case Universal Fit Power Case contains a 11,600mAh rechargeable battery, and is designed to fit an protect your 8.9″ – 10.1″ tablet. The case allows you to recharge your tablet up to 2 times, or a smartphone up to 7 times. The built-in battery recharges via an included Micro-USB cable and wall adapter. You then charge your device via it’s USB charging cable, be it micro-USB, min-USB, Lightning or 30-pin Apple cable.

As a reference to give you an idea of how many times you can fully recharge your portable device fro the Justin Case, the box lists various devices and the number of charges you can get from the case. These include: The iPad 3 & 4 – 1X, iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, and 5 – 7X, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 – 1.5X, Samsung smartphones – 7X. Of course, your mileage will vary.

I used the Justin Case mostly with my new iPad Air. The case fit well, and was also able to charge the device from 10% battery power up to a full charge, with usually 25% or so of the onboard battery remaining that I could use to top off my iPhone 5s. I also used the Justin Case to charge my wife’s iPhone 5, her iPad 3, and my Nexus 7 tablet. In each case, the device’s charging cycles only took slightly longer than if they were plugged into their respective wall chargers.

I like the design of the Universal Fit case a little better than Justin Case’s earlier effort. It looks a bit smarter, and the color I tried, a muted gray, seemed a bit more stylish. While the tablet fit well in the case, the elastic straps that held the device in the case did overlap the corners of my iPad Air’s screen a bit. After using the tablet for awhile, I usually did not notice the straps. However, this may bug some users.

The case does add more bulk to the device than non-charging type’s of cases, but this is the nature of the beast. The added bulk is required by the onboard battery. The convenience factor of the onboard battery more than makes up for the loss of style points.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a slim, light case for your device, you’ll probably want look elsewhere. But, if you travel, and are always finding yourself looking for an outlet to charge your devices, you will definitely want to take a long look at the Justin Case Universal Rechargeable Case.

I found myself using another, non-charging case for use at home, but any time I knew I would be out and about, and may not have the availability of an outlet to top off my devices, I put my iPad Air into the Justin Case.

The Justin Case Universal Fit Rechargeable Power Case is an excellent addition to an already fine Justin Case product line from Innovative Technology.
