Are you looking for a small, portable speaker with great sound for listening to music, that can also act as a speakerphone for your calls? With the debut of Rokit Boost’s Rectangle Speakerphone your options just increased nicely.

rokit_boost_rectangle_1Overview

The Rokit Boost Rectangle Speakerphone is a compact, portable bluetooth speaker that delivers excellent sound quality for entertainment uses, while also offering the user a super speakerphone with its built-in microphone.

Weighing in at just under 8 ounces, and measuring only 5.71″ long and 2.60″ tall, the Rectangle can easily tag along while you’re on the go without taking up too much room in your briefcase or backpack. The Rectangle has its power, volume, and skip controls easily accessible on top of the speaker.

The Rectangle can connect to your portable device or computer via Bluetooth version 3.0, or via the included 3.5″ 3.5mm line-in cable. Also included in the package is a Micro USB cable used to charge the Rectangle via your computer’s USB port, of your device’s wall charger.

Like many speakers of this size, the Rokit Boost Rectangle will not fill your room with bass thumping sound. However, it does an excellent job in doing what it was designed to do – fill your personal space with music – and it allows you to make clear and distortion free phone calls using the built-in speaker and microphone.

I tested the Rectangle connecting to my iPhone 5s, iPad Air, and my early 2011 MacBook Pro via Bluetooth. In all cases the Rectangle sounded excellent when used with entertainment content such as music, podcasts and movies. The sound was crisp and clear, with none of the distortion found in some speakers this size.

I also used the Rectangle’s speakerphone function in regular voice calls, and using my iPhone’s FaceTime ability. In all cases, I was able to hear the party on the other end with no difficulty, while the other party reported that my voice came through loud and clear. No mean feat that, as I am what is known as a “low talker.”

Verdict

If you’re looking for a speaker that will fill your room with thumping sound, look elsewhere. However, if you’re looking for a portable, rechargeable bluetooth speaker that will fill your personal space with clear sound, and also allow you to use it as a hands-free speakerphone, you definitely want to take a look at the Rokit Boost Rectangle.

The Rectangle is compact, runs a good long time, (the Rectangle is rated for 35 hours talk time, and 60 hours standby time), and gives excellent performance as both an entertainment device and a speakerphone.
