Yahoo Launches Twice Daily ‘News Digest’ App for The iPhone and iPod touch

Yahoo has announced the release of “News Digest,” a new iOS app that collects, condenses, and then delivers the day’s headlines to users twice daily. The app is currently limited to iPhone and iPod touch users.

From the News Digest App Store page:

Yahoo News Digest provides a definitive summary of all the important, need-to-know news. Digests are delivered twice a day – once in the morning and once in the evening. All the top stories are summarized and presented with the key information that you need to stay on top of what’s happening.

The twice-daily news delivery method of the new app recalls pre-Internet days of local newspaper delivery in the morning and then the afternoon. In most cities, newspapers are now delivered only in the morning, if at all.

Each story is sourced from multiple sources to collect essential bits and pieces of the story, or as Yahoo calls them, “atoms.” Atoms can include key quotes, images, videos, stock tickers, maps, infographs, and Wikipedia excerpts. Yahoo believes this will provide a unique context to the stories it presents.

Each digest, one delivered in the morning, the other in the afternoon, will include nine stories. A countdown timer, as seen above, will countdown until the delivery time of the next digest.

News Digest is available FREE for the iPhone and iPod touch in the App Store. [DIRECT LINK]
