Some Mac users are reporting that after applying the OS X 10.9.2 update to their Mac, they’ve discovered that AirPlay Mirroring and extension of desktops to external displays is “broken.”

AppleInsider:

Multiple readers have reported similar issues to those described by the Support Communities’ forum members, many of whom have seen problems with AirPlay Mirroring in OS X after updating to OS X 10.9.2.

Apple released the update on Monday to fix a number of issues.

One of the larger forum threads shows users reporting various types of AirPlay failures. One user reports he no longer sees AirPlay Mirroring as a selectable option in the AirPlay menu. Others report receiving only audio, but no video. Other users report problems with AirPlay’s desktop extension function.

We tried AirPlay to our Apple TV here, using a third-generation Apple TV, running the latest updated software, and an early 2011 15-in MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9.2, and everything worked as it should.

How about you? Have you ran into any issues with AirPlay to your Apple TV under OS X 10.9.2? Please, let us know in the comments section below.

Since osx 10.9.2 update, I can no longer mirror my desktop on macbook air mid 2011 to my HD TV with HDMI cable. Everything worked great until the update.

Since osx 10.9.2 update my apple 2013 iMac won’t recognise my Apple T.V’s or even show the airplay button on the computer. The Apple T.V will still stream music but not any mirroring or video. Thanks again apple, last year it was an update that killed the wireless capabilities of the apple T.V and this year it’s the OSX killing the apple T.V. Apple is great when it works!!

Absolutely nothing to do with the latest OSX update. What a joke. Get online and look at blogs going back years to see that AIRPLAY. Cannot stream to TV’s at all yet alone mirror a macbook. I spent £1000’s on technology in this house with multiple TV’s sound systems, multi application remotes only to have Apple TV stuuff it all upfor a $99 box. Jesus. Apple will not and have not recognised the issue globally. The store in Regents street reckon they know nothing about it. BULLSHIT. The box keeps saying its to do with HDMI cables BULSHIT. And please all the wannabies who will come back with suggestions try this or try that. Believe me I have had Londons best Audio Visual team on this and to no avail.
Wake Up Apple or more so Wake up public. I have since dumped the MAcBook and gone to a PC, next will be the Iphone going to a Samsung. I am done.

My airplay mirroring will connect, but then it won’t re-connect again after it has been disconnected. The airplay icon in the top bar stays blue (indicating a connection) even after I repeatedly select to disconnect the airplay display. It requires the Mac to be rebooted. I use airplay mirroring in my boardroom to show clients documents and information up on the large screen during our meetings. So this glitch has really impacted my ability to use this arrangement. I do however know I should not have jumped into a beta if I was concerned with bugs, so I’m not really complaining. 🙂

I have the newest Macbook Pro running Yosemite GM Candidate, i7, top specs for everything. My AppleTV has the latest update as well. I also have the latest Apple router (the one like the time capsule, but no hard drive, just the router).
