Microsoft Releases OneNote for Mac – Available Free in the Mac App Store

Just as previously reported, Microsoft has launched OneNote for Mac in the Mac App Store. The app is now free across all of the platforms Microsoft supports, and the Mac app includes 7GB of free cloud storage space, users who already subscribe to Office 365 will enjoy more space.

MacRumors reports the Mac version is quite similar to the Windows version, with only minor visual differences. Both versions share the ribbon interface, notebook metaphor, and note-taking features.

Microsoft is also releasing a OneNote clipper plug-in for Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and Mac Safari that allows users to save clippings from webpages.  The feature can also be used in third-party apps via a new cloud API that allows developers to integrate OneNote clipping into their apps.

Key Features in OneNote include:

  • Sync your notebooks seamlessly across computers and devices -then share them to your friends, family, or colleagues
  • Your notes look just the same on your Mac – including rendering ink annotation and formatting
  • Bold, italicize, underline, highlight, increase indent, decrease indent – format your notes like you want in a free form canvas
  • Search your notes and files for anything you’ve captured by just typing a keyword or phrase
  • Create, move, copy, re-order, rename, color code and delete pages, sections and notebooks to organize your content as you’d like

All the notes created on OneNote for Mac are synced to OneDrive and available on all other OneNote clients, which include OneNote for Windows desktop, Windows Store, Windows Phone, iPhone, iPad, Android and OneNote Online.

Partner apps with support for OneNote include Feedly, IFTTT, News360 and Weave.
