Apple’s iPad Continues to Dominate Mobile Web Traffic – Grabs 77% Share of April Traffic

Although it appears that Apple’s iPad sales are “flat,” usage of the tablet continues to be strong. A recent Chitika Insights report shows the iPad accounting for 77% of all North American-based web traffic in the first week of April.

MacRumors notes that Chitika derived this traffic data by sampling tens of millions U.S. and Canadian tablet online impressions across its ad network during the first week of April 2014.

Apple’s iPad grabbed a 77.2% share of mobile web traffic, compared to 8.3% for number two Samsung. Amazon’s Kindle Fire took 6.3% of mobile web traffic, while Google’s Nexus tablets eked out 2.2% of traffic. Tablets from Microsoft, Asus, Acer and others took 4.5% combined.

It should be noted that the iPad’s traffic share did fall slightly over last years figures, when it grabbed 81.3% in the same time period. Samsung’s devices showed the biggest increase, growing from 4.7% in April 2013 to 8.3% in April 2014. Amazon lost 1.3 percentage points year-over-year.
