Hudson’s Bay Rolls Out iBeacons to 130 The Bay and Lord & Taylor Stores in U.S. and Canada

Hudson’s Bay Company has announced today that it is deploying iBeacons to some of its 130 The Bay and Lord & Taylor department store locations across the US and Canada. iBeacons are Bluetooth LE beacons that send shoppers location-aware, targeted notifications.

Using beacons installed in merchandising areas throughout its stores, Hudson’s Bay and Lord & Taylor will automatically deliver branded content and personalized offers to in-store shoppers through an array of company-owned and third party mobile apps.

The iBeacon experience will be available to shoppers starting today in Hudson’s Bay stores at select malls and free-standing stores. The technology will be used for targeted shopping experiences pushed to users via the retailer’s mobile apps.

While other department stores, such as Macy’s have been experimenting with iBeacons, Hudson’s Bay is one of the first chain owners to deploy the devices in a large number of its stores in North America.

The company will use Swirl, the iBeacon marketing platform that integrates with Motorola Solutions’ MPact platform. Other retailers, such as Walmart are implementing a solution using GE’s beacon-equipped LED lightning fixtures.
