Minuum Previews Its Variable Height Virtual Keyboard For iOS 8

Minuum, developer of a minimal custom keyboard for Android, has announced it will be bringing the custom, system-wide keyboard to the iPhone on iOS 8. The keyboard allows you to change the height of the keyboard, or expand it to the usual QWERTY view.

In the mini-mode, keys bunch into groups of three. An autocorrection system then picks what word you meant to chose out of the possible options, similar to the word prediction systems of Fleksy and other custom keyboards.

TechCrunch notes that the keyboard can zoom from a standard full-scale mobile QWERTY to Minuum’s trademark single-line input. The large keyboard is designed to help users train their own custom dictionary to make the standard Minuum keyboard more effective.

Minuum joins Flesky and Swiftkey in offering alternative keyboards to iOS 8 users, which for the first time will allow custom keyboards to be used system wide in the place of the standard iOS virtual keyboard.

Minuum will be available to the public soon after iOS 8 is released in September. If you’re interested in being notified when the keyboard is available for download, you can sign up at the Minuum website.
