iPad’s Share of Tablet Market Slightly Shrinks in Q3 2014

While Apple’s iPad lineup continued its reign at the top of the tablet market in Q3 2014 , its lead shrank again, and it fell slightly behind Amazon in J.D. Power’s semiannual customer satisfaction survey.

iPad marketshare Q3 2014

IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker shows Apple remains the global market leader in tablets, although its quarterly shipments showed a 12.8% decline in quarterly shipments compared to the previous year. Apple’s 12.3 million units shipped edged out Samsung’s 9.9 million units, both well ahead of third place Asus, with 3.5 million units shipped.

Apple’s market share is expected to increase in Q4, with the introduction of the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3, although the bump may be lessened by consumers holding onto their current tablets for a longer time.

J.D. Power Rankings Q3 2014

Apple saw its previous number one spot in the J.D. Power tablet satisfaction study go to Amazon. Apple’s score of 824 was good enough for second place, behind Amazon’s lineup of Fire tablets, and ahead of Samsung’s tablet lineup. J.D. Power measures satisfaction on a 1,000-point scale using five criteria which include performance, ease of operation, feature set, styling/design and cost.
