LTE Speed Showdown: iPhone 6 vs. iPhone 5s

Apple claims both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have faster LTE download speeds than the iPhone 5s. Both devices are capable of reaching 150Mbps, thanks to being equipped with the Qualcomm MDM9625M LTE chip, which supports LTE Advanced.

MacRumors:

A demonstration of the speed difference between the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 6 when connected to a high-quality LTE network has been conducted by iClarified, suggesting the iPhone 6 is able to reach much higher speeds than the iPhone 5s.

The test, seen in the video above, was conducted on the Fido network in London, Ontario, Canada. As seen in the video, the iPhone 6 tops out at a download speed of 101Mbps, while the iPhone 5s hits 35Mbps. Upload speeds show a similar improvement, with the iPhone 6 reaching a 27Mbps upload rate.

iClarified says the tests were conducted using the Ookla SpeedTest.net app in a spot where the best reception was found. The publication says they were able to reach a consistent speed in the high 90s with the iPhone 6, with the highest download speed coming in at 111Mbps.

LTE Advanced, first introduced in 2013, can combine several separate spectrums into a single faster connection to increase data speeds and network capacity. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the first Apple handsets to support the technology.
