Overview

PayAnywhere for iOS is an app/card reader combo that works with your iOS device and allows you to take credit/debit card payments from your customers. Both the app and the credit card reader are free. (Due to our review schedule, MacTrast was unable to order a card reader.)

The PayAnywhere app allows you to receive both card-based and cash-based payments, recording both in the app for later access. The app allows you to enter and edit items or services that you sell, for instant access at time of sale. This allows you to quickly enter sales without needing to search for pricing of the sales items.

PayAnywhere can email receipts of all transactions to your customers, eliminating the need for a receipt printer. (You can customize the receipts for your company.) You can however, use a compatible printer to print a receipt if you wish. All sales tax is automatically calculated and added to transactions based on GPS location.

Most business owners are going to have one question about something such as PayAnywhere, how much does it cost to use? The company says there is a 2.69% per swipe fee for all card types, including American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. There are no monthly minimums or cancellation fees. The app can also process PayPal payments.

One thing I liked in the app is the ability to maintain a listing of your products and services, so they are ready to immediately add during checkout with just a few taps. Users can add products and include an image, description, and even set them up in categories.

The app also supplied a nice range of reports, including charts, showing such information as sales and sales trends. There is a free online portal that displays detailed account activity.

Verdict

As I am not a merchant, I couldn’t test the deep nuts and bolts of the PayAnywhere app/reader/service. However, I do have past experience with such services as Square, and PayAnywhere looks to be competitive with that service.

As usual, before signing anything, always check a company’s Better Business Bureau rating and such, but PayAnywhere does look like a viable option for merchants looking for a simple, quick way to take credit card and debit card payments from their customers.

The PayAnywhere app is available for download to your device at no charge, and offers a detailed demo mode, so you can download it at no risk to see if it meets your needs.
