Review: MobiFolders – File Manager and PDF Reader

Review: MobiFolders – File Manager and PDF Reader

MobiFolders is designed to be a fast, intuitive file manager for your iPad. The app allows you to edit and manage various types of files, folders and documents regardless of their size. In this review we take a look at the features of MobiFolders, and how they can work for the average user.

MobiFolders

Overview

MobiFolders is a file manager for your iPad, it allows you to view various file types, including: Office/iWork (MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-PowerPoint, Keynote, Numbers, Pages), image files (JPG/JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, TIFF), videos (whose Codex supports viewing in iOS, and other files (HTML, RTF, RTFD). (Office and iWork files do require their respective apps to be installed on the iPad in order to view and edit the files.)

It also allows editing the context of an existing PDF document by swiping, tapping or dragging a finger. Users can insert comments, highlight sections, add pictures or delete words in the document.

MobiFolders also allows you to synchronize information between your iPad and other locations, enabling editing of files, synchronization, email management and more.

The app can also act as a client for SMB 1 and 2 (Windows, Mac OS X), FTP, FTPS, SSH, SFTP, WebDAV (Client as well as integrated server), Dropbox, SkyDrive, Google Drive, STRATO HiDrive and Telecom Media Center. It also works with what seems to be any popular mail server, including Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, Hotmail, AOL Mail, and more.

I found MobiFolders to be easy to set up, with little need to look at the onboard documentation. (Documentation for MobiFolders is included as four PDF files.) Although the onboard PDF files do help you get used to the controls for reading, copying and moving files, and more.

Verdict

I found MobiFolders an easy to use, yet powerful file manager. As an app for viewing and editing files, you could do a lot worse than MobiFolders. It was simple to copy files into MobiFolders, and when they were there, it was simple to copy files from MobiFolder to other locations, including my Mac, DropBox, and more. I also enjoyed the ability to open Office and iWork files up in their respective apps.

MobiFolders is easy to setup, and easy to use. If you’re looking for a simple, yet powerful file manager for use on your iPad, I highly recommend that you consider MobiFolders.

Rating: [rating:3.5]

Price: $4.99 – Available for the iPad in the App Store. [DIRECT LINK]

Pros:

  • Easy to learn and use.
  • Works with numerous email services and cloud storage services.
  • Drag and drop file management on your iPad.
  • Read and edit PDF files.

Cons:

  • It doesn’t seem to be able to copy files TO cloud storage, just FROM. (Although you can set a local folder to sync to cloud storage.)
  • It has an in-app purchase of a reminder feature for $0.99. Since the user has already paid $4.99 for the app, asking for an extra dollar seems a bit greedy.
