“Photos” App Disappears From iCloud.com Website (Updated: Photos is Back for Some Users)

UPDATE: 01/02/15 – The Photos app is back for some, while others report they’re still not seeing it yet. We checked our account, and Photos is showing up again for us, and everything seems to be working properly. How about you? Is it back yet? Let us know in the comments section below.

The iCloud.com Photos app has disappeared from the site. The “Beta” app’s icon no longer appears on the main menu of the iCloud website.

The iCloud Photos app had been available since last October, and Apple had steadily been adding features to the app. It is unknown if the disappearance is related to Apple’s vague “early 2015” launch date for a new Photos app for OS X.

In addition to the disappearance of the icon from the site, manually entering the URL for the app gives the error: “Can’t load Photos. There was a problem loading the application.”

Apple discontinued development of their current OS X photo apps, Aperture and iPhoto in June of last year, after announcing that a new app, “Photos for Mac” would replace the apps in early 2015.

The new Photos app will feature image search, editing, effects, and third-party plugins.
