Apple will make another move to lure Android users into the fold, says 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman, offering a trade-in program to Android phone users, giving them gift cards for their old phones to use toward the purchase of an iPhone.

9to5Mac:

According to sources, Apple will soon introduce a new recycling and trade-in program that will accept non-Apple smartphones, notably including Android devices, in exchange for gift cards to be used toward the purchase of new iPhones.

The program will reportedly be similar to the system Apple uses to handle iPhone trade-ins. In the iPhone program, Apple Retail Store employees examine the trade-in devices and offer a value based on their cosmetic condition and functional capabilities.

Gurman says the new program will kickoff in the coming weeks, following training for retail store employees, which will begin later this week.

Apple employees will be able to transfer address book contacts from the Android handsets over to the new iPhone, but other data will need to be moved over by the customer.
