iOS 9 Adoption Jumps 5% to 66% of Devices Following Release of Emoji-Laden iOS 9.1

What’s the best way to see a 5% increase in the latest version of iOS? Why tacos, burritos, unicorns, and middle fingers, of course!

Apple announced in late September that iOS 9 had the fastest adoption rate of any iOS version. iOS 9 is now installed on 66% of all compatible devices, according to Apple’s own Developer Support page. Two weeks ago, the adoption rate sat at 61%.

As a comparison, iOS 8 was on only 64% of eligible devices by December 23 or last year. It ended its reign with an adoption rate of 87% the day before the release of iOS 9. Last year’s flavor of iOS is still running on 25% of devices.

Apple’s 5% jump in the adoption rate comes following the release of iOS 9.1, which included support for Unicode 7 and 8, and included new emoji, including: taco, burrito, cheese wedge, middle finger, champagne bottle, unicorn head, and more.

Apple seeded the second beta of iOS 9.2 earlier this week, which will be the second major update to iOS 9.
