The Fitbit Was Apparently a Very Popular Gift This Christmas

It seems a number of people awoke on Christmas morning to find a Fitbit activity tracker under the tree, that is if the App Store’s Christmas Day ranking are any indication. The company’s iOS app shot to the top of the free list in iTunes on December 25, making a 20 spot leap to the top of the heap.

Engadget:

That’s not surprising, insofar as Fitbit is the clear market leader, with a whopping 22 percent of the pie, last we checked.

While the company’s app was already the most-downloaded health and fitness app for iOS, the 20 spot leap for the company’s app indicates a good number of holiday gift recipients this year unwrapped a Fitbit.

Qz notes the fourth quarter has always been Fitbit’s best quarter for sales. The company sold 5.28 million trackers in Q4 2014, more than the first three quarters of that year combined. Holiday season 2014 saw the activity-tracker maker’s revenue rise nearly 250% over the same period in 2013.

Fitbit offers a number of activity and fitness trackers, offering a model for almost every budget. Their lineup ranges from the $60 clip-on Zip activity tracker, to the top-of-the-line $250 Surge, which also offers heart rate monitoring, music control, sleep monitoring, and more.
