Apple Says a Fix on the Way for iOS 9 Weblink Bug

Apple has acknowledged the issue that causes iOS 9 crashes or app hangs when tapping links. While the issue was at first though to affect only iOS 9.3 devices, it has since been discovered to affect multiple iOS versions.

Apple has now confirmed that they are indeed working on a fix for the problem, and it will come in the form of a software update (iOS 9.3.1?).

“We are aware of this issue, and we will release a fix in a software update soon.”

While the Booking.com iOS app was originally pointed to as the culprit, due to a grossly oversized website association file, it has since come to light that a number of other apps also have oversized website association files, so users who never installed the Booking.com app could still be affected. (Booking.com has since corrected its file to a more reasonable size.)

While Apple says it is working on a fix, users who are affected by the app and need immediate gratification can try the fix available at the Infinite Diaries blog, or a modified version at mobile specialist Ben Collier’s blog.
