Report: Apple Making ‘Aggressive’ Orders for Apple Watch 2 – Could Ship 2M per Month

A new report claims Apple’s suppliers are gearing up for the launch of the second-generation Apple Watch, and suppliers are reporting that orders for the new wearable are higher than the supply chain had expected.

The report is from DigiTimes, so make of it what you will, but the publication says supply chain sources are telling it that orders for the new Watch are “rather aggressive,” and the current pace of orders indicate Apple could be looking to ship as many as 2 million units per month.

Apple is said to be buying components for the new Watch, and shipments are likely to begin in the third quarter of this year, (the July to September timeframe.)

The “Apple Watch 2” is expected to look much the same as the current model, with most of the changes taking place inside the device. A faster processor, a larger battery, an improved display with better outdoor visibility, and possibly a cellular connection to allow data on the go without the need to be tethered to an iPhone, are just some of the expected improvements.

Apple earlier this week unveiled their upcoming watchOS 3 operating system for the Apple Watch, with such new features as an app dock, faster app loading, improved communication features, new watchfaces, and more. watchOS is expected to be released to the public in the fall.
