iOS 10.2 Beta

Today’s third iOS 10.2 beta seed – build 14C5077b – is available as an over-the-air update to developers who have the beta configuration profile installed on their iOS devices. Or, it can be downloaded from the Apple Developer Center. A public beta will likely be available for public beta testers soon.

What’s New in iOS 10.2 Beta 3 (Via MacRumors):

  • SOS – It appears the SOS functionality that allowed users to call emergency services by pressing the power button multiple times has been removed in this beta. According to Apple’s release notes, SOS is currently only available in India.
  • TV settings – In the Settings app, there’s a new section for the TV app. It allows users to choose whether to use cellular data for playback and choose the streaming quality over Wi-Fi and Cellular. There’s also an option to choose whether to make purchases and rentals from the store in HD or SD.
  • TV functionality – The TV app now supports the “Up Next” feature that keeps track of the television shows and movies you’re watching, saving your place or recommending next episodes across multiple devices.
  • Videos – The Videos app has been removed from iOS entirely, as it has been replaced with the TV app. The Videos widget, introduced with iOS 10.1, has also been removed, but there is a replacement TV widget that’s been available since beta 2.

tvOS 10.1 Beta

The third beta seed of tvOS 10.1 – build 14U5582b – is also currently available to developers. The beta includes the much-awaited Single Sign-On capabilities for cable users, but not the “TV” app, which debuted at Apple’s October 27 event.

tvOS betas are a bit more involved to install than beta updates for iOS and OS X. Users must connect the Apple TV to to a computer with a USB-C to USB-A cable, and install the update via iTunes or Apple Configurator. However, once a beta profile has been installed on the device, new beta releases are available over the air.

Xcode 8.2 Beta 2

Also released on Monday was a new second beta for Xcode 8.2, the new beta – build 8C30a – is available for download from the Apple Developer Center. The new beta includes the SDKs for iOS 10.2 beta, macOS 10.12.2 beta, watchOS 3.1.1 beta, and tvOS 10.1 beta. The Xcode 8.2 beta requires OS X 10.11.5 or later.
