Amazon Wants to Take the Relationship to the Next Level – They Want a Key to Your Place

Amazon says, “I’m always coming over all the time anyway, so how ’bout you give me a key to your place?”

Amazon Wants to Take the Relationship to the Next Level - They Want a Key to Your Place

The online mega-retailer has announced Amazon Key, a new smart device that will allow Amazon, or anyone else you trust to enter your house when you’re not home. I’m not sure I’d be comfortable with this, but then again, I never gave any of my girlfriends a key to my place either. (Yes, I said “girlfriends.” Why did you smirk like that?)

The Amazon Key is a bundle of products which includes the Amazon Key app, a smart lock that works with the app, and an Amazon Cloud Cam which lets you monitor your home from anywhere.

Once everything is set up, Amazon Key will allow Amazon to place deliveries inside you home. You just select in-home delivery, and Amazon will take care of the rest. You can also allow others to enter your house while your away, which should come in handy for Amazon customers that use maid and dog walking services.

Amazon Key In-Home Kit pricing begins at $249.99 and will be available as of November 8th. The kit is available for pre-order, and lock choices include smart locks from Yale, Kwikset, and others.

You’ll need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber to be able to use the service, and it will initially only be available in 37 U.S. cities at first.
