Featured Apps in New iOS App Store Can See up to 800% Increase in Downloads

Apps that score a featured spot in the revamped iOS App Store can see their downloads increase by up to 800%, says data from app analytics site Sensor Tower.

TechCrunch:

A new study from Sensor Tower out today takes a look at how well that’s been working in the months since. According to its findings, getting a featured spot on the new App Store can increase downloads by as much as 800 percent, with the “App of the Day” or “Game of the Day” spots offering the most impact.

The app store intelligence firm examined data from September 2017 to present day to come to its conclusions, it says.

Median U.S. downloads for apps that scored the “Game of the Day” featured spot increased by 802% for the week following the feature. “App of the Day” featured apps received a 685% boost.

Apps featured in the new App Stores Stories feature or in an App List also received boosts, 222% and 240%, respectively.

The numbers indicate Apple’s revamping of the iOS App Store app in iOS 11 is paying off for the company and its developers.

Many of the developers that have had their apps featured are larger companies, such as Electronic Arts, Square Enix, Gameloft, and others. However, Apple has also done a good job of highlighting indie apps, with 29% of featured apps coming from publishers with less than 10,000 downloads at the time.
