Apple to Allow MFi Accessory Makers to Include Lightning Ports

Apple will begin allowing accessory manufacturers to include Lightning ports in their MFi accessories. While the Lightning port has been in use in Apple’s devices since the iPhone 5, third-party accessory makers have not as yet been allowed to include the port in their products.

Apple has quietly removed the iPod Classic from its iPod lineup. The venerable device started life simply as the “iPod” in 2001, staying on in later years as a favorite of music fans who wanted to tote their entire music collection with them on its at one time spacious 160GB hard drive.

Apple iPod fans throughout Europe, Asia, and South America now have the opportunity to grab Apple’s new 16GB iPod touch, as the revamped model has launched in a number of new countries just five short days after its debut in the United States. The new model offers feature parity with its larger touch siblings, including a 5MP iSight rear-facing camera.
