Apple to Modify iPhone 5 Hardware to Support T-Mobile’s AWS Network

Earlier today, T-Mobile announced that they will finally begin carrying the iPhone after years of being left out from offering the device. While many initially suspected that the device would run only on T-Mobile’s HSPA+ and LTE bands, Apple has confirmed to Engadget that they will actually be releasing a modified version of the iPhone 5 with support for T-Mobile’s AWS bands.

T-Mobile has been the only major U.S. carrier unable to offer Apple’s iPhone for a long time now. But today, T-Mobile’s day has finally come. As part of their “Uncarrier” event being held this morning in New York, the carrier announced that they will finally begin offering the iPhone for as little as $15 up front, in addition to a series of monthly payments.

Apple to Reject Apps That Lack iPhone 5 Support or Use UDIDs Starting on May 1

Apple has announced that they will begin rejecting any newly submitted or updated apps that require access to a device’s UDID, after warning developers against using the old identifier system for nearly a full year. They’ll also begin rejecting any new app or update that lacks support for the iPhone 5′s 4-inch Retina display.

New LG Phone Ad Takes Apple’s Panorama Ad and Expands on It

A new ad from LG plays well off of Apple’s iPhone 5 ad that showed off the device’s Panorama skills. The LG ad, for their Optimus G Pro handset, does a nice pat on the back to the iPhone 5 ad, then gives it a straight uppercut as it shows off the expanded panoramic abilities of the LG device.

In November it was reported that Samsung’s Galaxy S III, taking advantage of a lull in sales of Apple’s iPhone 4S ahead of the iPhone 5 launch, had taken the crown for global smartphone shipment numbers in Q3 of 2012. Now Apple has reclaimed the title, thanks to both the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.
